The CDs tended to skip with minor movement of the player. However, when on maximum volume, the sound was kind of muddy. I put in 6 fresh batteries (Energizer) and after 4 hours of CD playing and 4 hours of the radio, the batteries were still going strong. I took it to the beach with me and it worked perfectly when playing CDs and the radio.
If you're looking for something small, lightweight, and just enough sound for a small room, bedroom, or the beach or something, then this should work fine. Also, when playing CDs, the player was kind of sensitive. I got good reception from the stations. This little machine only cost me about $25, so it did just what I expected it would do for that price. While it doesn't get as loud as I would have liked, the sound at lower volumes was good and pretty clear.
It runs on AC, which has a decent length of cord, or 6 size C batteries.
The problem seems to be solved. Truly a treat. But, my real delight is the radio which picks up NPR perfectly. The excuse is our location exactly half-way between New York and Philadelphia and the struggle over signals. I needed a portable CD player. It is just fine, especially when I am working in the garden. We suffer here trying to get other than local stations.
Amazon's return postage is not sufficient to cover the new higher postage costs or UPS. I had to return it and it cost me almost as much to return the player as the player cost. I really wanted this item badly - has great size, design is good, etc. but it did not play any CD that I inserted in it. I felt totally ripped off.
It was okay but the cd player stopped working after about 6 months. I cleaned the cd player but that didn't help.
A total waste of money and time. After 5 days the speakers were shot. Do not waste your money on this. Within only 3 days the cd player no longer worked. I bought it for the portable vertical cd player since space is an issue.(I listen to books on cd and cannot wear a portable device where I work) and there weren't many choices available so I went for the 'name brand' I got screwed.
